FOUNDER: BISHOP DAG HEWARD-MILLS

UD-OLGC is a Pentecostal Christian church founded in 1987 by Dag Heward-Mills and headquartered in Accra, Ghana. It is considered to be one of the leading charismatic churches in Ghana, and has over 6, 075 branches in many other countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, Australia, the Middle East and the Americans. UD-OLGC is made up of 41 denominations,over 3,423 churches138 Bishops in 73 countries.

Event Landmarks for The UD-OLGC

• 1985

The Church with 5 members. The School of Hygiene! “Lighthouse Chapel” emerges as the name of a small fellowship of nursing students and medical students meeting in a classroom.

• 1987

The Church with 40 members. Classrooms! The Church with 40 members. Classrooms! Through the various outreaches, dawn broadcasts and personal witnessing, a fellowship is established in the Medical School classrooms and auditorium.

• 1988

The Church with 80 membersThe School of Hygiene! “Lighthouse Chapel” emerges as the name of a small fellowship of nursing students and medical students meeting in a classroom.

• 1991

The church crosses membership of 300. Growth in the Medical school canteen! Lighthouse Chapel International was growing in leaps and bounds and needed a new venue. The Church finds and purchases an old decrepit cinema hall in the Korle-Gonnor area.

• 1993

The church crosses a membership of 800Growth in Korle-Gonno! In the Korle-Gonno Cathedral, the. Church grows to over 800 members.

• 1996

The church crosses a membership of over 5,000. Peak Attendance! The first ever-international convention of the church marks a peak attendance of 1400. Branches of the church in Ghana and outside Ghana contribute to a worldwide membership of over 5,000.

• 1998

The Church grows to over 70 branchesGrowth through church planting! Through church planting, the membership of the church grows in leaps and bounds. Dag Heward-Mills is consecrated as a Bishop in London. Counting and recored keeping become even more important for the growing church.

• 2001

The church crosses a worldwide membership of over 60,000. The church holds its first ever event at the Independence Square of Ghana with over 15,000 people attending. The Korle-Gonno Cathedral is dedicated by David Yonggi Cho. The total attendance in branches exceeds the attendance in the headquarters.

• 2002

The church expands into 22 countries.The first Homecoming Convention is held at the Korle-Gonno cathedral!

• 2007

The church crosses a worldwide membership of 147,899.Move to the Qodesh! After years of conflict and crises at Korle-Gonno, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills officially moves the church from the Korle-Gonno Cathedral to its new international headquarters, the Qodesh. He pastors the church at the Qodesh for a short while and gives himself fully to the Healing Jesus Campaign.

• 2008

The church expands into 48 countries.The Qodesh is dedicated! To the glory of the God, Dr. Prince Guneratnam of Malaysia dedicates the Qodesh on 13th April 2008.

• 2011

The church crosses a worldwide membership of 216,947. The First Love Church is born! Dag Heward-Mills’ journeys back from full-time crusades to the first love of his ministry – pastoring people. The First Love Church is born in the legon hall chapel of the university of Ghana on the 11th of December 2011.

• 2013

The church crosses a worldwide membership of 333,971. Twenty-five year go by! The Founder of the church, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, marks twenty-five years of pastoring the Lighthouse Chapel International.

• Lighthouse Chapel International. 2014, the Church crosses a worldwide membership of 424,027. The last Homecoming Convention of Lighthouse Chapel International is held at the Qodesh! The Anagkazo Campus in Mampong is opened to serve as training centre for ministers of the church.

• 2015

The Church crosses a worldwide membership of 456,919.The first Shepherds’ Congress is held at the Anagkazo Campus!

• 2016

The Church crosses a worldwide membership of 467,835.The second and last Shepherds’ Congress is held! The Lighthouse Chapel International breaks up into ten different denominations; Anagkazo Assemblies, First Love Church, Mustard Seed Chapel International, Lighthouse Chapel International, Shepherd House International, Mission Internationale Jesus qui Guerit, Igreja do Primeiro Amor, The Mega Church, Loyalty House International, Qodesh Family Churches.

• 2017

The church crosses a worldwide membership fo 524,338. The Mountain of the Lord Camp is born! Dag Heward-Mills becomes the pastor of the First Love Centre. The First Love Church is delivered from wandering around various university halls and moves into its very own First Love Centre.

• 2018

The Church crosses a worldwide membership of 644,670. The UD-OLGC marches on! The Church, with a growing council of Bishops, crosses a net work of over 3,000 churches, with 2,300 pastors and over 500 buildings and is present in 88 countries! On 14 May 2018, Dag Heward-Mills latched “Attempt great things for the Lord”.

• 2020

Pressing on through the Coronavirus pandemic! The coronavirus strikes and physical church meetings shut down across the world. Despite the ravaging affects of the coronavirus pandemic, the church membership continues to grow as the UD takes advantage of the FLOW prayer meetings and Sunday services. The first online Give Thyself Wholly Conference is held with over 76,000 delegates registered across 150 countries. UD-OLGC encompasses much more than just their headquarters in Accra and their church buildings and cathedrals around the world. The Pentecostal Christian Denomination also boasts the beautiful and modern Anagkazo Bible & Ministry Training Center in the mountains of Akuapim-Mampong, Ghana; the First Love Church, a youth church headquartered in East Legon, Accra, Ghana; a humanitarian charity, Help the Helpless; an orphanage, The Lighthouse Christian Home; and a primary school, The Lighthouse Christian Mission School.

WHO IS BISHOP DAG HEWARD-MILLS?

Bishop Dag Heward-Mills is the founder and Presiding Bishop of the Lighthouse Chapel International, one of the leading Pentecostal churches in Ghana. A consummate theologian and an evangelist, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has built over 400 church buildings worldwide, trained more than 1,980 pastors and 470 lay ministers, and written extensively on the gospel. He has written more than 100 books on several topics that are especially relevant for personal growth and success in the ministry. Born in 1963 to a Ghanaian father, Nathaniel Heward-Mills and his Swiss wife, Elizabeth Heward-Mills in London, United Kingdom, he was educated at the Achimota School and proceeded to the University of Ghana, where he trained as a medical doctor. Bishop Dag Heward-Mills was ordained into the ministry in 1990 at the Victory Church, London, and consecrated as a Bishop in 1996, by the International Ministerial Council of Great Britain. Besides Lighthouse Chapel, he has also founded the Anagkazo Bible Seminary to train men and women in the practical work of the ministry. He founded the Lighthouse Chapel International Church in 1987 from a classroom. By 1994 when the membership of the church had increased, the church constructed a 3000-seater cathedral in Accra. However, the congregation grew until finally, in 2006, he commissioned the construction of one of the largest church complexes in Africa, the Qodesh – a multi- structured building which houses among other things, a hospital and an orphanage school. After more than 30 years of healing, educating, guiding, and transforming lives, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills and Lighthouse Chapel International have earned the love and admiration of millions of churchgoers worldwide. They have helped to shape and mold communities while sharing the message of God’s love, acceptance, and hope.

The Archbishop

The office of The Archbishop of the UD-OLGC is charged with all public and ceremonial engagements of the UD-OLGC. The Archbishops of the UD are the ceremonial face of the UD and represent the body publicly in state functions, media relations as well as in large gatherings of the entire UD.

The UD-OLGC presently has two Archbishops, both resident in Ghana, yet with oversight of ceremonial engagements of all denominations, spread across 94 countries.
